WordPress Art Portfolio Website for Marina Tsoneva
Marina Tsoneva is a U.S.-based artist known for her interior paintings and fine art workshops. Her work is exhibited, shared in professional art communities, and she is recognized locally as a rising talent.
However, her previous website looked outdated and didn’t reflect the artistic atmosphere of her work, creating the impression of an amateur portfolio.
Marina came to WEB ALTERNATIVE through a personal connection with Lana Vazhnina and trusted our team with full creative freedom over the concept, structure, and design.
The main challenge was a limited budget and a tight deadline — the website had to be completed in less than one month.
Project Objectives
Discovery & Interview
We conducted an in-depth interview with Marina to understand her artistic journey, creative philosophy, and unique style, as well as her positioning in the U.S. art market and the role the website would play in exhibitions and collaborations with galleries.
This helped us determine that the new website should focus primarily on her artwork, experience, and artistic background.
Market and Competitor Research
We analyzed websites of American artists, modern art portfolios, and websites of art schools and galleries.
We also studied how artists present their work to curators, galleries, and collectors.
The conclusion was clear:
the website needed to be extremely simple, so that design elements wouldn’t distract visitors from the artwork itself.
Design & User Experience (UX/UI)
We proposed a minimalist gallery-style concept based on the following principles:
• clean, simple design with spacious layouts and plenty of white space
• minimal shapes, intuitive navigation, and smooth mobile experience
• strong focus on emotional storytelling and personalization
• less text and more visual content (images and video)
The main goal was to create a digital space that feels like a gallery, allowing the artwork to take center stage.
Website Structure
To make the website work both as an artist portfolio and a professional introduction, we designed a clear and intuitive structure.
The homepage introduces Marina and her work, the artwork catalog presents her paintings in a visual gallery format, and a dedicated workshops section encourages visitors to sign up or learn more. The site also includes a testimonials block with client reviews and a minimalistic contact page with a form and map.
UX Principles
When designing the interface, we focused on usability and simplicity:
• clear architecture with minimal clicks
• concise headlines and straightforward navigation
• strong call-to-action buttons such as “Buy Artwork,” “Book a Workshop,” and “Learn More”
• mobile-first design and responsive layouts
The structure was intentionally designed so that curators, collectors, or exhibition organizers can understand the artist’s level and style within 30 seconds.
WordPress Template Customization
The website was built on a WordPress template, but we significantly customized it.
Our team:
• rebuilt the page structure
• adapted the visual grid to match the artist’s aesthetic
• redesigned the gallery to showcase large images in a clean and elegant way
• optimized artwork cards for comfortable browsing
We intentionally removed unnecessary interface elements so that nothing distracts visitors from the artwork.
Results
Our team completed the project in just 21 days, creating a minimalist portfolio website that strengthens Marina’s personal brand and highlights her artwork. The site now serves as a digital gallery for presenting her work to the U.S. art community, galleries, and collectors, as well as supporting exhibitions and workshops. Despite the limited budget and tight timeline, the result is an elegant and thoughtful website fully aligned with the artist’s vision.
